Anyone got a source for a proper one like the ohlins/ktech units that aren't 500 dollars? Not interested in the motion pro type ones where you compress by torqueing down a nut, I'd like to have it mounted on a bench. Anyone know of any fabricators that have made one for them? https://www.ktechsuspensionusa.com/p-20006-k-tech-suspension-shock-tools.aspx https://www.shop.kyleusa.com/Ohlins-Shock-Spring-Changing-Tool-0624.htm
I didn't want to spend hundreds either, so I built one out of odds and ends I had lying around. Probably less than $20 in parts. I've used it three times so far and it appears to be holding up well. I keep it on a work bench, but I could also toss the parts in a box and keep it in my trailer. Start to finish, takes about 20 minutes to change the spring. Shock is a KTech DDS Pro.
We used to use one of those big pipe clamps since we had a ton of them in our countertop and cabinet shop.
