Sounds like a plan. Don`t worry, be happy.

Get it xrayed and plated and be done with it.

I personally find it ridiculous when people will allow it to “self heal” and end up with a huge knot and weird looking shit, because the bones never lined up properly.

I prefer to let someone go in and line it up and bolt that shit together (had my left collarbone plated twice).

You do realize he's in Mexico. They sell all kind of pain reliever, the really really good stuff with no prescription. And grab some Viagra, Anti-biotics and whatever else while you're there.

Probably better than going to a ER in a foreign country

Back in the old days.. (early 90's) busted my right one (street highside). Broke a 1 inch chunk out of the middle and twisted it sideways. Back then, surgery was a rare occurrence for such things. Got the brace which pulled your shoulders back so I walked around like a Jersey Shore reject for 6 weeks. Healed on it's own. Yeah, theres a knot there but no issues. Still, get the xray!

In Mexico working, went 6 months when covid came not working. Have to work now, don't like surgery unless absolutely necessary

Since you don't like pills, sniff the cocaine, smoke the weed, inject the heroin and enjoy a massage with the hookers.

Stop the complaining and enjoy some hookers and blow.

Well if that's what you are expected to do on your job, then there's your answer.

So. You're not really a captain? Pfff.

Were you wearing a mask when you fell down? No?

    No wonder it is broken.

In his defense, I think that was a WERA Beeb promotion.

Do this and tape it so the bone ends pretty much line up and the tape can kinda hold things in place for some support. That should help with less pain with some of the smaller movements. It will still hurt a lot with bigger movements and if you are stupid enough to try and lift anything heavier than a medium tomato.

Do you really think we believe you cannot come up with a story of how you got hurt that doesn't involve your friend?

This. There is nothing that pisses off a captain more than having crew with some sort of pre known issue having it blow up at sea.

On the flip side, I've known two people that ended up having surgery later to remove screws and plates that were causing problems. I broke mine a few years back, along with a lot of other things. Screws and plates were ruled out because of my other injuries, but I was told if necessary they could go in later and fix any problems. It healed, along with everything else. It just has an odd lump and is not even to the other side. Unless you absolutely must have a hurried use, leave well enough alone. Be sure it is slinged/immobilized properly

Option 1- stay on this tour and fake it , allow yourself to be half useful and sacrifice a proper healing of break. Sacrifice in future being able to lift anything heavy or possibly be a crew member again due to bum wing..

Option 2- tell skipper you are going to medical- get the plate on clavicle as required and have a future career with someone else if he fires you and does not give you FMLA like a normal employer.

    option 3 - Mutiny.

    lol quick healing

I have a little experience with a broken collar bone. Broke into 3 pieces. Now, it didn't hurt pain-wise or anything, but it sure felt weird with the bone ends moving around all the time. I saw the doc (ortho) as soon as possible, and he recommended surgery. (of course he did, he is an ortho surgeon-lol). What was supposed to be an hour surgery, turned into 3 hours based on the break(s). Anyways, after a few days on vicodin after the surgery, I could do normal things, (not lifting heavy things, obviously). But, I healed normally, can do anything I could do before, and this is 20 years on. I still have the plate and screws, and have no intention of getting them taken out.

I didn't want to have it heal funny, and have it look stupid, or have one shoulder lower that the other for the rest of my life. Well worth the surgery.

You say you will get fired. Well, from your previous notes here, it sounds like finding jobs really isn't a problem for you. I'd find an ortho where you are at now (get references) and get it done ASAP. Then, once your boss gets back in a week, you will be good enough to continue with some discomfort, but knowing it's fixed and shouldn't give you much in the way of issues down the road. And if you get fired, get it fixed anyway, take a month to heal, and find another job like you always do.

I think, based on your description, that this is something that won't go away easily on its own. And in the end, if you try to tough it out, I think you will still get let go, and it will be harder for the proper fix to be made later.

Why don't you take some pics for all the Beeb docs here, and get some real professional advice? :D Just remember, it's only worth what you paid for it.

Good luck with whatever your decision is, but my advice is to not think short term.

Oh, drink rum. Lots of rum. That way you can remember where you stashed all the cash you've made over the past few years to pay for this! LOL.
