(This really was some shameless attempt to brag that I’ve been teaching my oldest to fish this summer and she caught her first walleye...and that my fires are the best.)

Here's one the wife took a couple weeks ago at camp, overlooking our pond and the neighbors place.

 

I love the fall. The mosquitos are dying, the fires feel more cozy - and night games are way better.

Three days after ignition...just sayin'.

 

Small potatoes....My fires shoot flames 30 feet high! They're so big and hot they defy having pictures taken...I don't want any incriminating evidence left.

speaking of cooking...any experience with a dutch oven? I've owned one for 20 years and never got around to experimenting with it. Figured the Beeb would be a good place to get a few tips.

Been making these since scouts as a kid. Use any pie filling. I prefer cherry. Also, line the Dutch oven with foil for easy clean up.

If you have a cast iron Dutch oven that isn’t ceramic coated -

They are amazing as a tool buried in the coals. We’ve probably got one more weekend up here before it needs to be winterized - and I am gonna make slow cooked beef stew that way. Start the fire Friday night and keep it going until Saturday night’s dinner.

Early this morning, I buried foil wrapped potatoes in the coals to cut up for hash.

I love fire.
