Nigel, a hose is flexible. Pipe is rigid. Can't be the same. It's either/or. Same way you can't heat hot water.

I cant believe I just used rigid pipe in a sentence.

So I'm right. It's always pipe into hoes. :D

My house came with a gas water heater in the garage back in '76. I just replace it every 20 years or so with another one from Home Depot.

So where does PEX fall into your pipe vs. line vs hose classification?

We came home one day and had water pouring through the light fixture and ac vents in the kitchen because the pan under the water heater overflowed. That was so fun to deal with.

What’s funny is it was the outside drain that clogged up and caused the issue. We had checked the inside unit when the HVAC next to it was serviced the month prior.

That's like a Tranny right. Used to be pipe but now wants to be a hose so it runs around half rigid.

Nah...plenty of slab on grade down here where the frost line isn't grave digger deep.

No you didn't! Metalhead is now sitting in a dark room, mumbling to himself and slowly rocking back and forth.

    That's a ribbed hose.

So once a water heater gets water up to temp it never needs to turn on again

Damn it, man! Even Metalhead doesn't deserve a Barney beat down.

If the water has cooled enough that it needs to run again than the water is no longer hot.

Onanists are also rubbers. Not all who rub are of botanical origin.

Do propane water heaters have self-replacing anode rods or something?
