Recall reimbursement for already done repairs

Our Cayenne had a leaking fuel filter flange that I replaced, only to find out that there is a recall out there for gas leakage and a potential fire hazard. Is there anyway that I get my money back from Porsche?

Maybe. Mom replace the fuel rails on her 96 intrepid back in like 98. Sold the car in 99. Got a refund check from Chrysler in like 2002 with no warning or submitting anything. It was weird.

Yes take a reciept of payment (part/labor) to your local dealership. They will write a repair order for the job already being done and issue a refund to come from the manufacturer.

It will take a awhile because it will come from Porsche not the dealer.

This has been the standard practice in all places I've worked.

Well, the pepper started smelling like fuel. I already had a filter flange assy that I wanted to change anyways (sometimes).

Looking up the fix, I stumbled over the recall but decided to DIY anyways since it stank like hell and I felt it was too unsafe to wait another day. There were 2 oz of gas on top of the flange (under the rear bench)

Parts cost was $120 but I worked 2h on it. Shall I demand cash value of a Porsche shop fix at their rate?

I need to bring it in anyways since there’s another recall open for a shift lever bushing

So best would be if I had a repair bill with labor too, not just parts ;)?

They will only reimburse parts and actual shop billed labor.

You'll only get money back for part.

Have metalhead write you a receipt and add a couple cases of PBR to the tally.

I did something similar and was reimbursed for the part and my time.

Should be able to. I had the same happen with my durango. I took the receipts to the local dealer and had a reimbursement check sent to me.

I've heard it is hit and miss when you DIY or don't go to the dealer.

I have a peer working on one with Jeep right now.

Do yourself a favor and buy/borrow the correct tank ring tool. It will save having to drop the tank and using a hammer and punch.

I swapped one of two fuel pumps on my old Touareg myself and was just happy it ran after I finished. I do think they were eventually recalled but I didn't do anything about it.
