I just got a 2017 R6 that I'm setting up for track use. I see ETI tank guards are a popular option. Also, I see complete tank covers and little stick ons for the corners. How necessary is this for track days? Are these products more relevant for the older models/ tank shape?

    Any insight is appreciated!

the early model (06-07) needed it but Yamaha updated the tank design later on. The stick-on versions were garbage IMHO.
In order of priority... Id be doing case savers first and the tank protectors 10th. Cant comment on the crashability on the 2017+ model... but up til 2016 it was a wise investment.
    Trackdays aint racing though...

I would just to frame sliders (woodcraft) where ya gotta cut a hole. Dont do the cheap wrap around bracket. The sliders just limit the damage in many low sides. Dont need to get tank protectors for the 2017.
