I am just switching to pirellis and I was wondering what temp should I run and I was told you have to set them while they are warm. Also I was wondering if any one had a log so i can like keep track of progress and everything else if so thanks.
I don't even look at the temp, its all about the psi hot, there is a video of the ama pirelli vender (moose) quote "the only thing I use the pyrometer for is track temp" The log http://feelthetrack.com/downloads/RaceDaySheet.pdf its dave moss's sheet
Our Pirelli vendor (Tigershark Racing out of Oregon) set me up with 32 front and 30 rear right off the track (12 laps/20 minutes). If you have an outdoor thermometer and tire pressure gauge, you can set up a chart showing before and after temps and pressures. For example, I have 70 degrees F and 27.5 psi Front/25 psi Rear = 32/30 fresh off the track. I plot out the temp throughout the day, and I have a decent starting point for cold vs hot pressures. Of course, the warmer it gets throughout the day, the lower your "cold" psi setting will be. I was told that Pirelli designed the tire to operate at 32 front and 30 rear hot, that's it. Take it with a grain of salt, but once we set my temps properly, I got a real consistent performance from the tires.
Gary you're insane and still after all these years haven't figured out how this business works. I like Pirelli but if they cannot supply the slicks Eraldo needs why would he run their tires? Plans change, teams and companies have to adapt to those plans. What MV wants comes first since they are the main sponsor, then you move down the line. This is business not a game.
Of course I'm insane, why do you think I'm still at this I understand the business, hence the contract comment. I've seen teams screw Pirelli around too many times, and don't like it.
