I’ve seen a bunch of ads for these and seen some in LGS recently. What is everyone’s take on this and what are the legalities / implications of carrying and deploying this since ccw isn’t really an option for most of us.
My mom has one, I wouldn't want to get hit by the round let alone the pepper. The ball will dent a 2x4 at 30 feet
not sure i would have posted a vid here @grasshopper youve got a few minutes to catch that and move it to the youtube thread
legalities don't mean much after the cops ventilate you for brandishing what *looks* like a gun. Same with pellet guns- 100% legal, but I wouldn't carry it around the mall. I'd just go with good old pepper spray.
Why isn’t CCW an option for most of us? particularly now that i telecommute 100% of the time, i can carry pretty much wherever i go. But like someone else said, pepper spray is more compact, and less likely to get you shot by police, or a bystander.
Almost 30 years ago I was involved with the testing of some prototype paintball gun pepper balls on bears in Alaska. The father-in-law of my mate got permission from the State and feds to use his bear dogs to run black bears on the Kenai National Moose Range. The bears were a nuisance and danger to the staff as they would climb into the moose feeders to eat the moose chow that was out for the orphaned or injured moose. The only recourse the staff had was tranquilizer guns. We got the dogs to tree a blackbear and then we shot it with a pepper ball. The prototypes were not that successful as the shell was too tough to rupture completely and disperse adequately on the half dozen or so bears we treed. It was still fun to chase bears and shoot them with a paintball gun.
All I know from every class that I have taken is that if you are going to deploy anything that could remotely be construed as a lethal weapon, and point it downrange at someone, you'd best be in mortal danger. I think the last thing on earth I would shoot with a pepper ball is an animal mean enough to eat me. Bear, buffalo, or a bull = mean as hell.
