Missed the part where the teacher said "if I had something in my hand, I'd had thrown it at him" during the teacher, principal and parents meeting then?

Teacher needs fired. Bad judgement and behavior around young students can’t be fixed. She’s in the wrong profession.

Parents aren’t snowflakes in this case. Doing nothing allows that teachers obvious poor mental judgement to go unaddressed which allows her to continue spreading her bs to other students.

No ma'am it's not. Not in the south. It is a simple sign of politeness, nothing less nothing more. No age limit remotely on it. I was not raised here but I was raised to be polite and that means ma'am and sir when in a setting where I don't know the other person. If we have a relationship of sorts then it may morph to dear (regular female bartender for example) - again no age restriction. Also say thank you every time someone does something for me even if it's repetitious. Just the way things are.

Anyone taking ma'am as an insult based on age or seriously having an emotional reaction to the word has some issues they need to work on, that includes you my dear :D

Hell, it is a reflex for me to say ma'am to the teen ringing up my order at Jimmy Johns.

Yep. All people serving me in any capacity no matter their age are always ma'am or sir.

My wife told me I was doing it wrong. We were out to dinner at a nice place for her birthday a bit ago, and I asked over to the waitress to get her attention: "Ma'am?" I get the funny look. Turns out I should be using "Miss" as the woman was in her late twenties maybe. I responded "This in a manual somewhere? Where is the line between 'em?" More stare of doom. :D

I'm a fucking yankee. We only call older women ma'am - never call someone ma'am if they are in their teens or twenties - it's weird. The generation after mine also sees it as a perceived slight if you are still young enough to be a miss.

All in all - I really don't give two shits. Call me what ever you want.

If you’re an elected federal official such as a congressman or senator for as long as that ignorant woman has been and you are still unaware that ma’am is the official means to address a female superior by army regulation, then you can go fuck yourself. I don’t care where you’re from. I think she knows damn well that this is the case and she as just being a snowflake hypocritical jackass trying to score political points at the expense of a senior army officer who has done more for this country in 5 minutes than boxer will ever do.

No they just a perceive a slight for any reason even if they have to make one up. Miss is the proper term for a single adult female. It is also proper for a female of whom you do not know her marital status, basically generic vs missus.

So maybe folks should just call them bitch.

I have always used Ms. thinking that would be the least offensive based on interactions with staunch 70s feminists. Recently, I have had women start insist on using Mrs. This is fine for someone I interact with regularly. It gets dicey when I am not as up to date on current marital status.

    Then go for it.
You can call me "that bitch" if you want to. I really don't care.

I know this. We all learned it in school.

You know Minneapolis has a coffee shop and a Taco shop that has asked customers to use gender neutral terms when addressing the staff?
That's how offensive "sir" and "ma'am" are to people now.

I find Minneapolis offensive, please keep the residents there next time the economy takes a crap due to their socialist policies and rude behavior
