Those things can easily be rigged (just look at the last Jedi's reviewers reviews). Besides, haven't you ever seen a movie that was so crappy it was amazing. Not to mention the soundtrack kicked ass.
I think it would be a reasonable bet that the guy did it on purpose. Just couldn't resist seeing what would happen.
What, exactly, did it rip off from Top Gun? That there are modern war planes involved? That's about it.
And Top Gun was ripping off Officer and a Gentleman because Navy stuff... They're all just trying to recreate McHales Navy.
Now that I can agree on. It was doing that, for sure. Not sure if that qualifies it as a rip off. Rip offs, to me, should be a lot more similar in topic.
Iron Eagle was like - how can we do all that awesome military stuff without the boring "I'm in the military" storylines?
They are more alike than you realize. Military aircraft - check, shit getting blown up = check, something held captive (Tom Cruise's confidence, The kid's father) - check
The only thing that made Iron Eagle cool is the fact it was centered around the F-16, the best fighter ever made. The BFM sequences were bullshit, however.
