The only guy they could find to ride the bike after even Barbera said "no." Has been around European 600 superstock, FIM 1000 superstock, WSBK… I don't think he's ever done anything worth noticing. He's just trying to get within 107% right now. Avintia Ducati really is something special.
Thanks for the background. I've never seen/heard of him previously and thought it might be a Moto-2 or Moto-3 guy they were trying on as a Stagiare
Special is definitely the word. Racers would usually stab each other to get a MotoGP wildcard, these guys had to dig to find anyone willing to do it. Ouch. To be fair to dude though, in terms of technical progress there’ve been like 14 new iPhones since his bike came out.
Showing up to ride a bike you have never ridden before or even a bike of that class before and be only 6 seconds off the fastest riders and bikes in the world is impressive to me. Oh, and a whole team you have never worked with before either. They probably spent most of the first session just getting the ergonomics right.
Do you hear the interview with Crafar where the guy pretty much through Halffish under the bus... damn
He wouldn't have gone faster on Dovizioso's bike. He's not even close yet to the range where the bike matters.
Take what they say with a grain of salt. This is the same team that thought Xavier Simeon was their best option for 2018. Everything starts with a dollar sign for Avintia and then they fill in the rest of the blanks. Papa hit it on the head; Avintia Ducati is really something special.
MM goes in the gravel and gets up running for his other bike. Thought it was going to be Austin all over again...until he got on the scooter
JL sets new lap record...sucks he is switching bikes. I guess MM is glad JL will be contained by Honda next year.
