...Ramone, that is. 3 outta of the original members 4 gone. never saw them live but some cool songs, none the less. It blasted disco back into its hole in 1979 and that's good enough for me.
Apparently this morning...some sort of cancer...his wife, Rob Zombie, and Lisa Marie Presley were at bedside...???
From punknews.org Los Angeles radio station Indie 103.1 and the Associated Press are reporting that Johnny Ramone has passed away. He was 55. A publicist told the Associated Press that Ramone died in his sleep Wednesday afternoon at his Los Angeles home surrounded by friends and family. Johnny had been fighting a five-year battle with prostate cancer. He will be cremated during a private ceremony. Johnny was born John Cummings on October 8, 1948 in Long Island, NY. He was raised in nearby Forest Hills, Queens. It was here that he and Douglas Colvin (the future Dee Dee) formed the Ramones in 1974. Throughout the Ramones' prolific career Johnny proved one of the most influential and often imitated guitarists in punk rock. Johnny is survived by his wife Linda and his mother Estelle Cummings. Our deepest condolences go out to Johnny's friends and family.

Godspeed, homeboy. I vaguely remember seeing them at a club called Spit in Levittown. Back in my hometown of Long Beach, they were a regular sight, although they did cancel a concert on the beach at the last minute, prompting a punker riot near my building. And they say Avril Lavigne (sp?) is a punker? My God, what have we become? Long Live WLIR!
I remember that; I was there. It would've been my 35th Ramones concert. I was extra-annoyed because I'd gone to see them at the Showplace in Dover the night before, gotten my mom to drive me straight out to the beach to wait for a good spot, and stayed there ALL NIGHT just so they could cancel the damn thing in the end. They rescheduled it for 17 days later at My Father's Place, but eh, it wasn't the same. You know, his wife Linda used to be Joey's girlfriend. What a tangled mess THAT was. The rest of you can say farewell to a legend or a rockstar or whatever. But I remember too well sitting around his teeny-tiny little studio apartment on 10th street, watching something out of his immense collection of horror movies; bringing him a cake on his birthday, because we knew no one else would; and making fun of, for the thousandth time, his penchant for color-coordinating his t-shirts, wristbands and socks. I, unfortunately, have to say farewell to an old friend. 'Bye, John.

Now the first guy I ever had a crush on AS WELL AS the first guy I ever slept with, are both dead. How d'you think I feel?
Jeezus 'rella did you see them everytime they played!? Atleast some of those entries look like you saw every gig for a few months at a time. That's amazing! I liked the Ramones but my affection isn't in your league. P.S. Does everyone from that area have an "under the boardwalk" story!?
Damn. Cinderella, I admire your concert attendance, but if you remember them all, I think you may not have been doing it right...
Hehehe. I hardly remember any of them. Kept a list as I went along, once I got past 10 or 15 and realized I was having trouble keeping them straight... On the other hand, while I barely remember individual shows, I have the set list deeply ingrained in my head. Couldn't tell it to ya, but if you played me a Ramones song that they did live, I'd still likely be able to tell you which one would've come next. =c., and I'll never get those neurons back, either. sheesh.
