Amazing track. There are one or two sketchy corners, but, overall it is a very challenging layout with lots of elevation changes, a nice race surface and a few real technical corners. With (I think) 22 corners (counting As and Bs), it takes a bit to learn, but it's a very fun track to ride. I haven't been back since they built all the paddock buildings, but I hear that the new facilities are nice. The last time I was there, there wasn't any power in the paddock, but that may have changed.
Awesome track, nice surface, not alot of runoff but good for trackdays. If you have never been there it will take about 3 sessions to start to learn the layout. There's something like 21 turns to memorize and some are simliar. The elevations changes leave wondering if you should be on the gas or reaching for the brakes. Pro6 cycle pretty much has the scene locked up for trackdays. They run a good program a little looser than most which is fine by me but others get wound up about passing too close. Get hotel reservations in early because the place is in the boonies. Most of us camp out in the pits. Be prepared to battle mosquitos at night, I think there's a factory down the road that makes them. They can be brutal and interrupt a good nights sleep which can affect your trackdays. Glenn
Pat, I hear from everyone that's done it that it's sweet. I know a few people that have been making it a yearly trip. Michelle and I were toying with the idea, but just not certain we can do it this year with all the other days we're trying to plan. PM Froggert (same SN on suspects and here) as he's doing the trip this year with a bunch of folks.
Haven't been there in a year, nor have I raced there, but it's one of my favorite tracks for trackdays. Excellent surface, rain or shine, lots of places to pass, challenging corners with a bit of everything - elevation changes, blind entry, decreasing and increasing radius turns. Definitely worth the trip if you have a chance to go. Reserve lodging way ahead of time! We've stayed here: http://www.jockosbeach.com/ in the past and liked it. Split between a few people, it was pretty reasonable and a quick trip to the track. Gas is expensive, so, if possible, fill up your cans on the US side of the border.
Yeah, places to stay and places to get stuff while you're up there are in short supply. We stayed at a campground about 20 minutes from the track the 3 or 4 times we went up. There's a little gas stations/grocery store in town that has a lot of your basics, but don't do looking for a Wal-Mart or anything. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. And I forgot about the mosquitoes! Crazy!
I love the place. Be sure to book 2 days in a row because the track is loooooooong and it takes at lease one day to learn it. Racing surface is as smooth as baby's butt and the variety of corners and elevation changes make for a very challenging ride. Definitely worth it.
Worth every penny (although Pro6 has raised prices a bit this season). Amazing circuit with everything but a corkscrew.
For trackdays, Pro6 only. www.pro6cycle.com (great group to run with) For schools, Turn 2. www.turn2.ca (many instructors work for Pro6, too)
One of the best tracks I've ever ridden at. Smooth surface, lots of elevation changes, challenging and fun layout. Definitely try to sign up for more than one day, because the track is tricky to learn. Pro6 guys are great to run with as are George and the Turn 2 crew if you decide to take the school. It's in the sticks though, so definitely bring as much as you can with you. Ottawa is 30(?) min away, and the nearest gas station is 10-12 minutes out. Best bet would be to camp at the track if you run with Pro6.
ottawa's about 90 minutes away. last august, i'd guess 90% of the riders camped at the track. calabogie is one of my favorite tracks. the only one i'd put in it's league is vir north, which imo has a better layout but much crappier surface. there's really nothing in the area around calabogie, either. and some of what there is isn't really track rider friendly. pro6 puts on a very good event. if you can, go. it's worth the trip.
I've got three Calabogie vids up on Youtube. Just search for steve802cc and it should bring up my vids. Also check out the Mosport vid. Yup Calabogie is in the middle of nowhere. Be carefull driving up there. The roads get tight and twisty especially the second half of #511 north of Perth. Later Steve
Oh come on Steve, 511 North gets me in the mood for the SPOON!!! This is Poper, you threw a few cold ones back with me and my buddy from the States last July. I'm in for 10 Bogie days this year, but no Mosport (wife says fourth of July is for family :down. Are you going to be at Bogie this summer?
Thats an understatement. Bunch of us were going to do two days Bogie then drive over to Mosport for another two days...but almost a $1000 for 4 track days is just asinine. With that being said we opt for 2 days Mosport...I love Bogie, but not at 250 a day. Mosport is just another sick track too.
Holy crap did they raise the rates that high?? Last I heard it was like $150 per day last year or something like that. Sup Pope, getting ready for the new season I see
Steve, I saw your vids, nice stuff, did you get down to 2:15 last year? What tires are you running? Glenn
I was the buddy from the states. Awesome track. DO NOT look to your right in turn 1. I'd agree that there are only a couple sketchy corners, but unfortunately one of them is 4th gear on a 600... I'd still go back.
Bogie 250 per day and Mosport is 225 per day. Theres a slight difference with the US conversion but not much. The problem is Pro6 has the exclusive rights to these tracks, so if ya wanna play ya gotta pay Pro6 does put on a great event I will say.
