Who’s getting ready for the hard water? I’ve only gone a handful of times but after bass fishing pretty damn hard this summer and loving it has me wanting to keep some sort of fishing going. I’ll mostly target panfish for eating. Picked up a Showdown 5.6 today off CL brand new for $200. Pretty stoked about that.
I'm looking forward to it. Group of buddies has 3 huts out on the local lake (rice lake). Will get out a couple times a week for perch there, and we always get up north a few times for lakers, and splake. Should be a good season. Plus I bought a sled last week so now I can leave right from the house, hop on the trail at the end of the driveway and be on the lake at the huts in 40 minutes. Get some riding in and bring home dinner. Will make it a lot easier to get in some northern back lakes too, as an atv is pretty useless up there in the deep snow where we go.
I hope you guys in shanty's have some gas soaked rags to tie around your ankles and light on fire to keep the ants from eating your candy asses. We did it in the open, with a bucket to sit on and a coleman lantern for heat. Then we got fancy and got some little sleds to sit on and hold the lantern and keep your tackle in. Woo hoo that as high tech. Shanty's......pffft.
Yeah. Like all these pussies with forced air heating. Should be manly and throw logs in the fire every few hours.
A nice 25° day with no wind is great for sitting out on the ice. -10° and or 15mph winds, a shack is mandatory.
What do you guys usually catch, pan fish,or anything that bites? Also do you eat them,if so what and how,and is it any good? Sorry for all the questions, but here in Ga. ice fishing would get you killed in a few feet of going out on ice, and if we did get ice that thick I don't know what would be biting in Feb.?
Shit, we used to beat a hole through the ice with a rock and then stick an arm in up to the shoulder and feel around for fish. Now get off my pond.
