I've never been on a Grand Jury, but in 1997 I was selected for a Federal Jury. It lasted about three months, Mon-Fri....9A - 5P. It was quite the experience for sure. The presiding judge was a fellow named Stephen Limbaugh...who was Rush Limbaugh's Uncle.

Federal special grand jury here (think RICO, human trafficking, etc.) I lasted one and half days. People sleeping through testimony, voting. Just, no. Got escorted to the presiding judge, had a chat, and no.

Yep, County Grand jury. Same here with a couple days a week for a few months. All types of cases. Just as in real life, some of the people in there that wanted to ignore logic and the statutes and just think with their "feels" was maddening...... Hated it.

Only had it once, but it rocked, not the $5 they give you to spend on a $9 sandwich in their caf. But a lil guy got screwed, offered to settle and they fought him. We gave him every penney from the original contract.

That's a regular Jury. Grand only decides weather or not there is enough evidence to actually go to trial, and the statutes are met to justify the charges.

I got booted first challenge when I made it to a jury pool. I suspect there are prosecutors that have nightmares about me being on a Grand Jury.....baaawhahahahaha!

I still don't understand why they don't pull from the sizeable enough pool of people collecting unemployment to sit on jury duty.

    Because it's random selection.

Funnily enough, I've just been notified of being summoned for jury service in the US District Court. 2 weeks "on call" in April. Fucking joy.

They can't randomly select from among all the people collecting unemployment?

Did a year on county grand jury, it was a good learning experience but I don't want to have to do it again.

I got lucky, I got grand jury duty last year starting in April. 3 months of calling in twice a week to be told to stay home. Not sure what they did with the criminals but I really didn't mind.
