It was in the early sixties (1962?) my Dad took me to the polo grounds to see the Mets play the Milwaukee Braves. Hank Aaron drove a line drive foul off the green pipe that served as a fence along the third base line. It zoomed up in the air and my Dad caught it....green paint stripe on the ball and all. Pitched my Mel Stotelmier if remember correctly. Lost that ball somewhere a long time ago.....Hank was a class act.
What a great ballplayer, and what a great person. "Failure is a part of success." "I tell young people - including my granddaughter - there is no shortcut in life. You have to take it one step at a time and work hard. And you have to give back." --H.A. RIP, slugger, American.
I was at the game in 1975 at Milwaukee County Stadium when Aaron hit is first home run as a Milwaukee Brewer. It got crazy in the stadium. RIP
