When local it's same old places . I run from Lawrenceville to Buford Over and over like a hamster on a wheel . Also got a boss checking on me a lot
I raced , and worked out of a Isuzu NPR,Its very uncomfortable, don't believe me?Buy it and try it!!! Sitting over the drive tires, and getting beat up every mile
It had one great point, when you had to deliver a house full of furniture half-way down a dead-end street, you could back under the trailer and turn it around fairly easily. Why not just back out you ask? After a day of loading/unloading a house full of furniture, it's almost always dark.
You rang? I'm back with my old company doing OTR tanker. Pick my own schedule, seem to get the gravy loads now and they were happy to bring me back on. We're supposed to be getting a raise and new trucks next year. I'm not going anywhere... With my other gig I pretty much ran Savannah to Atlanta all week long and started to hate that lane. Here at least there is some variety, and I run how I want to. Also I don't run up against my clock all the time, which was getting old. If you're near Dalton I gotta a buddy that has a sweet tanker deal going. Home weekend's and couple nights a week as well. No hazmat. Hit me up.
Ya know, I always thought I'd like to be a truck driver. I've had CDL's in the past. Maybe when I retire? Is that possible? If I could pass a physical, which I could, would they hire a old guy to drive long haul?
AS long as you can pass a physical and don't have a bad driving record. You can drive as long as you feel comfortable, and no running over stuff. Theres a shortage of drivers, and you can drive pretty much how and where you want. Look at craigslist, and indeed for you're area.Tons of opportunity!
Truck n trailer, those cthat can back up a set of doubles have my upmost respect. Mary don't realize the longer the trailer the easier they are to back up.
Im not a truck driver, but have backed up trailer on and off since I was 15. I didn't know you could back up a double trailer, how does it work? I think even staying in a straight line would be tough?
As a Freightliner and Kenworth dealer, there is an absolute shortage of drivers out there today. My generation - the under 40 crowd - unfortunately is not interested in that work.
I know a few young truck drivers but most of those guys were born into it. I've been doing it for close to 3 years and I love it. I don't know if I could ever have a "real job" again, I hope I never do actually. I don't think this is a job for "normal" people tho. Most people aren't willing to give up their life for their job. And that's pretty much what OTR is.
It can be done. I've never seen it done more than 100-150'. To make them turn you have to get one then the other the right angle. Think backwards of everything you know. Kinda like backing a farm trailer with both axles steering..
