Explain "White Priviledge" ..... Seriously

Its a question that MANY of us dont care about. I dont know about others but I am FAR too busy doing everything in my power to keep my own family afloat, my own kid on target for success, and my own house in order. I just wish the less "privileged" would do the same with their time.

 

If this group cannot see the imprimatur of slavery in today's socioeconomic demography, it's useless to continue the conversation.

The past is never dead. It's not even past.

 

The poverty cycle is broken all the time. Just because you are born into poverty does not mean you will stay in poverty.
Also poverty is related more to ones culture than to ones race. You want to ignor people's actions and choices as being the overwhelming factor that contributes to their level of wealth and simply define it as race based, which is absolutely ridiculous.

So you keep saying that white privilege exist but yet you can't offer one specifical example.

I love how liberals want us to believe that America is now more racist than in any other point in history.
I would like it explained how America became more racist in the last 100/50/25 years. Other than a former POTUS playing the race card for 8 years it's pretty clear that America offers opportunity for all who want to take advantage of it and race has little to do with it. Name one other country that provides so many opportunities for anyone who wants to make themselves valuable towards society.

-the cop gives you his throwdown gun if you don't already have a gat of your own
-you get a thank you letter from the court for being white and on the roads, and an apology for your inconvenience
-the cop buys you lunch
-the cop gives you a full lights and siren escort to your final destination

Also, if you are white you can claim whatever ethnicity you want like Dolezal, Warren, Talcum X, and Ja Du.

 

None of those statements mutually exclude how, in aggregate, whites have systemic advantages in today's environment.

All that wonderful and valuable farmland you talk about -- how did you acquire it? Did you buy it, and if so, where did you get the money to do so? Is it family property? If so, how many generations back has it been in the family?
I'm not expecting you to actually answer this, but if you follow the thinking, some light might go on. Or not.

The easiest way is the one that will not happen. Make it less pleasant to stay in that situation. When you pay people to do nothing many will. There is a ton of potential in poor neighborhoods that is wasted.

Oh and stop importing cheap low skill labor to make it easier for Americans in the lower tiers of earning to start progressing with a base job.

Washington cannot do this as there are to many of the parasites there making a mint off of the current harm being done to the citizenry.

 

Funny you went there. I came to Alabama with a negative net worth and worked for my folks who are far from well off (some would call Mom poor though she will never want while I am alive). But we had a good customer who came in regularly at the store, when he passed he son became VERY rich do to the huge amount of land his father owned. He also happened to be black (matters only in this conversation). Seems backward to your standard..... am I really black and no one has told me before this?

Yes because the land has just magically stayed in the family for over 125 years without any work, sacrifice, effort, management or planning. I'm glad my Moms great great great Dad immigrated from Germany with nothing in the late 1800's and took advantage of the opportunities afforded to him at the time and that his offspring continued to do the same. It's a result of hard work and taking advantage of opportunities not because of the color of their skin. Keeping together land for this long involves more than just waking up in the morning and doing nothing.

It's only recently, like in the last 30 years or so that its value has become what it is today. Prior to this it was close to poverty level, at least when my Mom was growing up she was by all accounts a poor farm kid, as was my Dad. They both grew up with little means and worked on the farm as kids. I fully admit I'm fortunate but it's not from being white. It's from my ancestors working hard to make something from nothing and taking advantage of opportunity. A similar opportunity that is made available all the time in America for hundreds of millions of people, being white, black, brown, green, purple, whatever.

This is a far cry from white privilege. Unless by white privilege you mean hard work, dedication and good life decisions. If so, I'm guilty.

That is what makes me laugh about this whole mess. No matter what your ethnicity if you choose the right historical starting point you can claim oppression of some sort. I also like when the whole "oppression / white privilege" conversation starts the focus is always on issues caused by / advantages given to white people both real and perceived with no comment about advantages given to minorities. Yes there was bad stuff that happened in the past. Yes, we are still seeing the effects of some of that treatment. But if you look at college admissions, awarding of scholarships and most corporate hiring practices you will see that there are opportunities there too. All I know is that it is really hard to go forward if you are looking back and feeling sorry for yourself because of something that happened in the past.
