You must be talking about writing off "business expenses". Maybe consisting of per diem shortage compared to the GSA rates. I know what you're talking about. If you have a per diem split pay then you need to either tell your employer to pay you 1099 or make sure you're getting the max rate. I'm in a similar boat.

There is a slight workaround though. You can make your own LLC or even be a sole prop and write your losses there.

From those articles, it looks like the left should love the tax plan since more people are finally paying their fair share.

    I just read some w2's

2016 & 2017 my pay was pretty even and federal withholdings were the same within 200$.

2018 I grossed $4k more and federal withholding was ~$2700 less. No change in my exemptions.

I'll be interested to see how it shakes out once the taxes are all done. If I don't owe... I'm happy.

Cuomo is blaming Trump's SALT cap for people fleeing his state.
That's rich. How about your bloated budgets and runaway spending that caused the ridiculously high state income and property taxes? No?
    Idiots.
Has any of these arrogant morons ever looked in the mirror with a shred of honesty?

It sucks when your escrow payment for property taxes is more than your principle and interest payment on your mortgage!

Nope! I've lived in other states and there are pros and cons everywhere you go.
I choose to live here because my family all lives here and now all four of my kids and their families are here, even though as teenagers they all wanted out of Buffalo. 3 out of 4 of them left the state and have now come back. Family is more important than taxes, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

I live in Ohio and my taxes + insurance are about as much as my house payment.

That is pretty much where the wife and I are...you're not gonna be happy. I know we aren't. I hear the IRS fudged the withholding tables to make the tax cut look better. It worked in the short term (more money in your paycheck), but now the people who were used to a paying a few hundred or getting a few hundred may owe a couple of Gs and most of them dont understand their taxes did actually go down. They only see what they pay or get back at the end.

My taxes went down overall, but b/c of the withholding SNAFU we're cutting a check for double what we did last year come April. I have since opted to have a flat amount withheld in addition to already claiming 0 so I don't have this issue next year. I never thought claiming 0 would leave me this far in the hole.

So $2600 increase in annual take home...or as Nancy says, "crumbs."
$50 a week is a nice increase. $1.25 an hour raise for a 40 hour worker.

Well, from her perspective... 2600 IS crumbs. Hell, 26000. You'd have to add yet another zero to get her attention.

    Just some food for thought.

Americans’ Confidence in Their Finances Hits 16-Year High, Near Record Level

Partisanship appears to have a significant impact on the perception people have on how well they are doing.

Members of virtually all demographic groups surveyed were more likely to say they were better off—rather than worse off—in 2019 compared to last year. Democrats were the only exception, with 37 percent saying they were worse off this year, compared to 32 percent saying they were better off.
Even demographic groups that are more likely to vote for Democrats were more likely to say they were better off this year rather than worse off. Among Americans under the age of 30, nearly two in three said they were better off. Meanwhile, both among women and people from households with less than $40,000 in income 45 percent said they were better off, with 29 and 35 percent saying they were worse off respectively.

Republicans have an entirely opposite view to Democrats, with 68 percent saying they are better off and just 10 percent saying they were worse off. Among groups that are more likely to vote for Republicans, optimism is also high. Sixty-six percent for conservatives, 57 percent of those with a household income of over $100,000, and 56 percent of men said they are better off this year compared to last.

Both Republicans and Democrats changed the perception of their financial well-being around the time Trump replaced President Barack Obama.

What sticks out to me on that map...Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the entire world. They have the same GDP as Alabama and their citizens are literally starving to death. Good job socialism!

Thank GOD, much of our immigrants didn't let nostalgia affect their decisions to come to America.

I have a sibling and extended family still in NJ, granted they didn't have opportunities like I did to leave that dump but they have similiar attitudes as the above post and I suspect they woudn't go anywhere even if they could. They'd rather just stew in that politically miserable region and bitch about crime and taxes than simply leaving. LOL!
