Why is it when I ever see anybody selling new tires here somebody always asks for date and code? What is the importance of this information?

    Thanks

I always ask because I'm lonely and want to have the info for getting to second base

Probably to ensure they're getting fresh tires. Tires can be brand new, but have been sitting in a store someplace for 5-6 years. Even if stored correctly, I don't want 3-4 year old tires. But that's just me. :)

The datecode stamped on the tire indicates the week/year the tire was made, so people know they aren't buying a old dried up tire. For example if it reads something like 2508, that means it was manufactured in the 25th week of 2008. Or if they may be also asking for the date and code would be the tire code for the compound like these that are stamped onto the side of Dunlop rear slicks: 7614 Soft, 7704 Medium, 6680 Med+, W277 Daytona
