How are you watching it? Is the Red Bull website a good venue? If not, what is a better way to watch it? ADV Pulse has an article on who are going to be top finishers. American Andrew Short (Husky!) could be the top American. There are other American names, Garret Poucher, Skyler Howes, and Nathan Rafferty. First show on Red Bull is this weekend. http://www.advpulse.com/adv-news/da...6XK9SqutxdZe9GPfFmd47Fa6g9LaBRN2BbpqydKpiVud4
I follow the event every year about any way I can. TV and even web video coverage is usually delayed and brief, but there is nothing like seeing 20,000 lb, 900hp trucks in the air. Don’t forget the amazing scenery, tough as nails competitor, great motorcycles and great riders. Love it.
Any way to stream? I see Red Bull TV has a review show every night but I am never home by 6PM CST. BeIN's schedule doesn't go far enough out right now to see if that will work for me.
I plug in to the firehose at adv rider to keep up. There is a guy there who has an amazing live tracking site. Pretty close to real time.
Coverage on NBC Sports starts tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing how Robby Gordon’s buggies do against the factories. A good number of Americans in the bike class too.
Brabec is in 3rd after the first stage, so good start there! The Terxtron buggies, not so much. Robbie is back in 20th as of now and his teammates are no looking so good either. He talked a good game, but I was skeptical. Still it is very early for the Dakar, so we shall see. It is very hard to complete against factory money without factory money.
The official site has a pretty good live timing page as well. Official Site: https://www.dakar.com/en Live timing: https://gaps.dakar.com/2019/dakar/aso/ukie Trucks out on the special now. I am really hoping one of the Iveco trucks can derail the Russians this year.
A good day for the US riders. Brabec 2nd and Andrew Short 9th on the day. That puts them 3rd and 10th overall. This is a good showing for Short only in his 2nd Dakar.
Yep, a few got lost and one of the favorites is gone. The Americans are still OK on the bikes. Brabec is 7th and less then 7 minutes behind 2nd place. 1st place can get lost, get stuck or have a mechanical easily, so Brabec is still right in the mix. Short is still 10th over as well, although probably too far back on time to make the podium. Not looking too good for the Textron buggies right now. Hildebrand lost an hour and a half. Potts and Gordon have several way points to go yet. It really sucks what they did to them. "Your SxS is too big to run in the SxS class, you must run it in the car class." So Robbie sets them up to run in the car class. Then in Mid / late December, they tell him "Oh, but you will still have to use the speed limiter for the SxS class." Horrible last minute rule making to make sure the big dollar factories don't get embarrassed by the creative American.
That's ridiculous man they are against RG every year it seems. Yep, now lets hope he didn't push to hard, because this is a marathon stage (no team servicing the bike tonight). That bike has to make it through another stage tomorrow pretty much as is.
Another good day for the US riders. 6th, 10th and 11th on the stage. Brabec is leading overall. Short is in the top 10 in his second Dakar. Howes is 18th as a rookie, which I believe makes him the 2nd fastest rookie.
Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere, but this guy is one tough/ballsy dude. http://www.advpulse.com/adv-news/nicola-dutto-paraplegic-racing-dakar-rally/
