I'm rebuilding the forks on a 92 Bandit 400 I picked up this fall.

Unfortunately, I did not pay attention to the fork seals when they came out.

Can anyone tell me which side goes "up" and which side goes down toward the oil"

One side has a lip and the other has a groove in it with a spring.

Also, any advice on installing the fork seals and dust covers?

Groove with spring inside faces down, towards the oil.

You could probably push the seals in with your fingers, whatever you do just don't mar the tube. PVC pipe works good if you can get the right diameter, anything really could work. Rules are, don't mar the tube, push on the outermost part the seal, and don't mar the tube, that's about all she wrote other than putting it in the correct way.
