Clear Coat

Discussion in 'Tech' started by Dieselboy, Aug 20, 2018.

  1. I was peeling up an old 3M clear film and it was coming up fine. When I got to the front I noticed it had taken some of the clear with it over the pin striping. I'll probably take it to a local body shop. Can they clean this up or am I looking at a total respray?

  4. Local body shop recommends I use clear nail polish and wet sand with 3000 grit...

Should be okay, it's not by an edge that is easy to sand through.

3000? id start with 400-600 and make sure the bond is good on delam edge with a metal pick(delicate lift of edge)....good way to know if it will happen again

btw feathering requires good wet sanding skills(u cant see when its wet)

in other words u better feth r the edge or eles u dig too far into other paint

  9. Luckily the clear on the stripe is higher than the clear on the red and white so I didnt need to feather it too much, just softened the edges. It came out ok, but I sanded thru on 3 small spots. :(
