I really don't understand the trend towards ever heavier bikes. I guess we buy what they convince us we want. In days long past, no one ever told me that I couldn't travel on my CL360. Consequently, I rode that little bike all over the country without realizing that I was doing it all wrong. Oddly enough, in spite of the fact that I was woefully ill equipped in the motorcycle department, I had a really good time.
You can successfully tour on anything. People do it on bicycles, mopeds, groms and road kings.....but since used bikes are plentiful and cheap. Why not go in comfort?
Spoiled for choice with bikes nowadays. Tons of great bikes mentioned. I've ridden cross country on an SV650 and an Ultra Classic Harley. Both different. Both awesome experiences. You'll find your sweet spot.
I think it's hilarious dude wants to talk about how he's such a great parent, give yarn advice about how she should be like him, and bitches about his own kid's mom. Guess what numbnuts? You chose to procreate with someone you apparently deem an unfit parent and by your account, your kids now suffer for that mistake you made. Fucking hypocrisy at it's finest. By the way, my .02 (for whatever it is or isn't worth) - there's nothing wrong with leaving the kids at home sometimes. Sure it's fun to take them places and show them things. But mom and dad need their time too. And not spending every second trying to entertain them is a good thing. It's how kids learn self sufficiency. My parents did plenty both with and without me. And when I did come along, especially around other adults, it was never all about me. Sure they did things for me but they made sure to have their own fun, even when I was present. Consequently, I didn't end up the spoiled brat that can't make it on his own like many only children. Do your thing yarn. Your family, your business. Fuck everyone else.
6 from Port Jervis to Middletown is not a bad ride. Runs pretty much next to and crosses under 84. Hop back on 84 around Middletown and then hop back on 6 after. 84 on a motorcycle is hell.
