Anyone know about flex fuel sensors??

Just curious if these sensors detect the ethanol or the actual oxygen content. If you use them for fuel with MTBE or methanol as an oxygenating additive will they still function properly?

Let's say you have some E80 and you have some "M40" (40% methanol) will the flex fuel sensor have the same output? They should both have the same AFR, but will the flex fuel sensor tell the ecu to spray the same amount of fuel?
I'm not sure if what I said made sense, so I'll put it into a table. (the AFRs are probably a little off, but are just for comparitive reasons)

AFR setting suggested by the flex fuel sensor to the ecu:
    E80 8.0
    M40 8.0

Is the above what would happen?
