Sean- What's up with this? It's been posted on the RRW site, and I'm wondering if the races will be open to WERA riders or only riders w/ an AMA license? Also, they allude to something about the 250's can you elaborate on that also?
Well, it looks like we'll be hosting 3 rounds of the Pro Thunder series at some of our events (the dates are still tentative, I'll post when they firm up). It'll be run under the AMA rules, require and AMA license and everything else that normally happens with regard to the Pro Thunder races when they are run at an AMA event. All in all it should be fun
Don't know anything about the 250's, sorry. A lot of things have been thrown out there as ideas, most of which never hit rumor stage, some of which have. We're open for most anything but the decision on it will be the AMA's. As far as I know right now the 250's are staying the same as last year.
I think that it's great that the WERA National guys will be able to run an AMA event and maybe get some notice from other teams...but that is a paradox in it's self. (See Nash trashes AMA post) Will the Pro Thunder be the *featured* race of the weekend? Will they be getting anymore of a concerted effort in marketing by WERA since it will be at a WERA event? If this is true I think that WERA can/will be a better thing for the Pro Thunder series as it will allow them to get better promoted and have a closer connection to the fans than at AMA races...maybe
It will be marketed by us as the main event for that weekend with help on that end from the AMA. Of course a concerted effort by WERA in the marketing arena is not all that much to begin with but we will definitely be giving it our best shot.
Hey I've seen what WERA can do when it wants to especially down here with RPM All you have to do is keep your head up and hammer down and you'll do fine [This message has been edited by TX racer (edited 01-09-2001).]
I like that the AMA has paired with WERA, and even the idea of sharing track time on the weekends. I probably won't be at many Nat'l events, let alone one that has both.(Probably the Cycle Jam??) Anyway, my big hope is that this means more TV coverage. On any night during the summer, I can flip to many channels and see some level of NASCAR racing, no matter how dull. USAR, ASA, etc. Just like the CBS coverage of Pocono, I want to be able to watch OUR sport on the tube, beer in hand, instant replays, people talking about it at the office, the works. Imagine a "Bud Bike" actually turning a corner, the Viagra R-1, or the Tide GSXR.
And if the AMA 250GP class were run at WERA Nationals, would this be in addition to the (recently revised) F2 class or in place of.....?? Charlie Mc #90
I have already been turned down by Cracker Barrel for sponsorship because of their NASCAR ties. That's not to say that some NASCAR sponsors may not want to jump the gap now that F-USA is making prime time. I'm still trying with some national chains that have other televison coverage. It was good to see that Reptilian Racing's sponsor EMC2 was sponsoring a golf event on CBS.
Don't know, not a question I have to worry about right now. Probably instead of but like I said, not an issue at this point.
The question should be...Will the Pro-thunder bikes have the same safety wire requirements as the rest of us?
