air filters on race bikes?

    It's the quarter in the ear that gets me. If I'd known I had a quarter in there I'd have used it to buy some candy out of the vending machine.

    No filtration? Someone must like changing rings a lot . . . . Big bits like gravel are one thing. Even if you're not tossing the bike down in sandy places, ever race in the South in the Spring when the pollen is so dense the air is hazy and everything is yellow? The internal combustion engine is little more than an air pump, and all that particulate matter in the air is being ingested. Maybe it makes no difference, and I'm overly cautious. I prefer to filter what enters my engines, and look for the additional 1 - 2% performance in my riding . . . there is a lot more to be gained there.
