So im considering drinking the koolaid and getting an R1. Ive seen/heard of quite a few dropped valves, broken rods, failed cranks. Enough that it's got me concerned on the longevity of these engines in stock form. So from those of you in the know, what's causing these failures and is there anything I can do to help keep from having issues? I'm currently looking at a streetbike that I would convert, it's got right around 9000 miles. Thank you for the input

I don't know about the general population but EDR has posted a decent amount of examples on their instagram showing stock engined R1's pooping the bed in relatively short order.

Sloppy dealership work on trans recalls were definitely responsible for some of the failures. And others just broke. I'm not sure I'd be scared of any of them in particular.

I would think it would be well sorted after 9,000 miles
