I want to try a 190/55 rear on my 08 750 track bike. I'm looking at the 09 gsxr1000 rear wheels (with the curved spokes) that are 6" wide and I know that the axle size is the same. My question is if the cush hubs and rear sprockets are interchangeable and if the rear rotor offsets properly for a direct swap. What's needed if not a direct swap? Thanks
A swing arm swap (and also the wheel) is more $$$ and effort that I'm willing to put in at this point.
I honestly wasn't aware that the 190/55 fits on a 5.5" rear wheel. Could have asked the tire guys at the track but thought it would be a stupid question. Thanks
I believe in 2008 before the DMG switched to spec tire that some of the 600's were running the 211 in 200/55 at certain tracks
Dunlop has designed their 190/55 to fit the 5.5" wheel. No distortion of the carcass which may occur with other manufacturers. Most 190's are made for 6" wheel but will still fit a 5.5" no problems.
I have run a 190 on a 5.5'' gsxr wheel more than once.....it feels fine but it does make the gearing taller.......come to think of it I may run a 190 at Road A next weekend.
Nah... I just run the 190 because I wanted to see if it would clear the chain and swing arm... I usually run 180/55R17... And my set up is lighter than the stock wheel assembly... Luis
you are going to drop a little power because of the weight of the 190. With that said, you are going to pick up some side grip so you can get on the gas harder sooner. I like the 190's myself. Been using them on my 600's for a while now on an sv...you dont have the power to utilize that tire. The bike would make a good bit more power with the 160 and more then likely handle better. A 180 or 190 on an sv just doesnt make sense.....it looks cool though, I cant deny that
My next set of Dragon Pros will be with a 190/ 55 rear then. I'm running 15/45 gears, that's plenty low on the 750.
I've got a 190/55 on my 750, I love it. Only difference with throwing it on a 5.5" wheel instead of a 6" is the taller profile.
