Checking vin # on the internet

I acquired a basket case of a bike and would like to check the vin# to find out if its hot. Is there any web site I could go to find this information?

I know criminal history is public and posted on the internet.Is vehicle information the same to? Like license plate # and vin #'s

But I would like to look up the other brands as well. When we get a suspicious bike in the shop we would have to call the police to come out and inspect the bike. Even if we give them a vin # over the phone. It would help with filing mechanics leans

Just run the VIN through carfax. It's simple.

 

carfax is a joke. I have checked vin #s through them and they don't give all the info. I bought a Ford Expedition that was totalled through an insurance auction, so just for kicks I ran a carfax report and it came up as clean never wrecked. For motorcycles it usually doesn't give any info.

 

Um, how about just calling the DMV?

 

The DMV in the state of Ohio is not allowed to give out that information.
