This is your daily reminder not to pay down your spouses student loans because that is free money to her in the divorce And without the student loan weighing her down shes more likely to split
Does debt prior to marriage gets combined or does it stay her debt? If she goes to school while married through. That’s yours as well.
The debt prior to marriage stays with her or at least thats how it worked in my case. What the court does NOT look at is any reduction in her debt being a financial benefit to her only. Nope, they just divvy up the bank accounts and home equity and say 50% goes to her! But but but she's leaving the marriage $50k less in debt and that means nothing? Yup! There was some legal jargon about the court can split up assessets but cant put her in the poorhouse to repay debt. In my case I entered the marriage just with a mortgage, shevhad $100k in student loans. At the divorce she had $50k of student loans remaining. I got no compensation at all for that $50k improvement on her balance sheet.
Got behind this on the way home last night. Shockingly, the chickenstrips were pristine. I'm not sure what the beef was with the car beside him. He lane split despite the dangerous zipper merge just past the light up ahead and was gone with a wheelie before I got moving.
