So I have a ‘95 916 with 3700 miles on it that I moved into the living room eleven years ago after a divorce. It’s nearly perfect and I would like to sell it now. It would probably take a few thousand dollars to get it up and running. The question is, is it worth spending that money on it or just sell it like it is since who ever buys it will probably not make a rider out of it anyway and just display it like I did?

Would it really take a few thousand to make it run if doing the work yourself? I'm thinking plugs, oil, oil filter, fuel lines, carb rebuild, brake lines and fluid, caliper rebuild, coolant, coolant lines, water pump (if needed). Not making it rideable, just making it run for a potential buyer and able to walk it up onto a trailer and stop with the brake lever.

New belts and injectors. I wouldn't turn it over without new belts.

It's just time. I'm going to clear out most of the old bikes.

As much as I hate the site, that bike sounds like a perfect candidate for Bring a Trailer. Or at the least Iconic.

Stored bikes are a pain but yours is a gem with 3700 miles.

? in 2012 where are you in the US? Humid climate or dry climate.

1...drain fuel and run bike till it dies. Put preservation fluid in tank that will cover fuel pump.
2...drain oil and add new oil.
3...drain and fill radiator with deionized water or new anti-freeze. Hit starter and move water and oil to all bits.
4...put bike on stands for tires
5...cover/plug exhaust and intake so no moisture gets in engine.
    6...pull battery ground.

Since this bike was in your home at 40-60% humidity I think if these steps were taken you could do minimal mtx and throw a battery in with some new gas and start her up.

Belts dry over time so that is something I would think about as well.

I looked at BaT and think it gives me false hope. I've seen them go for anywhere from 11k to over 30k.

I would buy a featured listing on Rare Sport Bikes before I’d ever consider BaT listing.

Can you get it back to stock? If its sold as living room art, 100% stock will bring you the most $$$.

I do have the stock seat, but not the pipes, brake lines, or clutch cover.
