Christopher Nolan is the most over hyped director in Hollywood.

There is not one Christopher Nolan film I would watch again. Yet his movies get the biggest hype. His movies drag you along promising some spectacular reveal that never happens. Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, there isn't one of them I'd sit through again. They're not bad, they don't suck, they're just average TNT movie night filler. Not enough story to care about, not enough tension, just the bare minimum of entertainment value wrapped up in blockbuster packaging.

"...they're just average TNT movie night filler."

Now, you can throw out these hot takes, but you gotta provide a director you think is actually not over-hyped.

I'm completely the opposite. I think he is the finest modern filmmaker there is. While I don't love all his films (Tenet was a huge letdown I wasn't a huge fan of where he went tonally with Oppenheimer), I adore quite a few of them. Interstellar is my favorite film of all time.

I tend to like the "less is more" approach. He isn't heavy on CGI and prefers practical effects with most of his stuff, and character development take front and center versus overtly flashy set pieces. That isn't to say he can't do big action.......the Dark Knight trilogy is proof of that (with "Rises" being the weakest of the 3).

    My Nolan rankings:
    Interstellar
    The Prestige
    The Dark Knight
    Inception
    Dunkirk
    Batman Begins
    Memento
    Oppenheimer
    The Dark Knight Rises
    Insomnia
    Tenet

+1 on inception. Just saw it again this year. Its one of those flicks where every time you watch it already knowing the story, you catch a lot of things earlier in the flick you missed before.

Dunkirk is rewatchable. The rest fade from memory pretty quick, they seem formulaic.

I also do not understand how you can watch Dunkirk (most of the movie) or the docking scene in Interstellar and say that......between the scenes themselves and the musical score (Hans Zimmer is a genius collaborator of Nolan's) I'd like to hear examples of what you think true "tension" is in filmmaking.

Tenet and Interstellar were giant turds. The rest I must say quite enjoyed.

At the other extreme, I thought Dunkirk was corny as hell....

I agree with the others about Inception, movies that don't forebode whatever is coming up are quite enjoyable.
