Composite components can be welded together, but most of the industrial process that I’m familiar with, are prone to inducing structural weaknesses. Would say that’d make it more inclined for mechanical connections… but the more I read about this project, the more baffled I am with some of their approaches.

Sounds like it must have imploded when they lost contact or shortly after as their sonars didn’t pick up anything. I wondered if when the sub would have run out of air if it would depressurize causing it to collapse but it doesn’t appear the knocking sounds came from the crew.

Pretty straightforward reason why the Eastman capsized. Shift all the weight to one side of the ship, it lists. If it lists far enough, it capsizes.
Many (too many) people went to the dock side of the ship to wave bye bye, than ran to the other side when it started to list toward starboard. It rolled to the port side.

It was known to be an unstable ship...
