A old racer and racer friend of mines Father passed and we are clearing out his garage of bikes and cool old things. I just don't know anything about this. Anyone?
If it turns out to not be particularly financially or sentimentally valuable, I'd love to have that in my office. Lmk what your search turns up and how much your friend would want to let it go for, if he doesn't want it himself. That's cool AF.
I would keep it just for sentimental value, if it were me. Dad wanted to pilot a P51 and routinely rode his bicycle from Bartow, FL to Winter Haven, where they had a training base, just to watch them. By the time he graduated HS in '44 they didn't need fighter pilots, they needed bomber crews. He ended up as a tail gunner in a B-29.
looks like Dan Witkoff was the artist, fairly prolific in military aviation drawings. Is maybe a $100 or less. DEFINITELY cool and with sentimental value would keep that sucker. Frame her up and put on the wall, if that is your style. Oh duh, is framed up. LOL
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads2&file=details&id=1264 This has what appears to be a little detail on this plane.
Definitely cool but I can't unsee that the wings look out of perspective and like they are from two different planes.
Never drew planes despite living on an AFB most my childhood. I haven't drawn in decades but can judge the shit out of someone else's stuff! Ha! Here's some work from 30 yrs ago. Lets hear it. I can take it.
Didn't mean to hijack this thread backbone. I should have started another one when Acree called me out. My condolences to your friend and his family for their loss. No disrespect.
Ape did/does some nice work. Wouldn't mind seeing more. In this place the odds were 90% that I would have been right. I still like the work in the OP, perspective issue or not.
That's the P-51K, aka kitten. They had a really big right wing and wouldn't fly straight. They just looked like a bunch of kittens running around in the sky.
Damn artist is a fraud...first the perspective and mislabeling a K as a D model. Off with his head. If already deceased, dig him up and kill him again.
I think there is some distortion in the photo of image med4.jpg. Look at image med1.jpg and things look OK. Assuming they are the same drawing.
