In 2019 I saw them open for Def Leppard in Bristol, VA. They didn’t play anything from Mr Roboto or anything from Dennis DeYoungs song writing. So apparently even they know certain periods of their work suck.
Kilroy was here stage show was pretty cool but by then the music was in serious decline. I had seen them since Crystal Ball. My dad drove us to Crystal Ball tour concert in his Gran Prix drunk as hell in the snow and smoking our weed. He was just retired from the AF and looked like a cop. Fun to watch but nobody passed many joints our way.
My first concert was Bad Company, with Styx as an opening act. Didn't know much about them at the time, but they opened with Light Up, and everyone did and everything changed from then on.
Tommy is special, and people around here knew it when he was playing local clubs at 15. Tommy still comes home now and again…just here a few weeks ago with Styx at the Performing Arts Center.
Hands down one of the best voices in Rock & Roll, It's not even open for debate. Did some great work with the Damn Yankees as well "High Enough" is just awesome. Mr.Robato, though ? I just can't embrace that song..lol I hate that song more than Ozzy's Bark at the Moon...lol
I've been re-listening to music from my teenage years (73-78) lately to see how it's endured the test of time. Listened to a couple of Styx songs just last week, Miss America and Suite Madame Blue. I even gave them a couple of listens. And I realized, nope, they sucked then and they still suck, so I'll give them a C- for consistency. Thank god punk started rolling around in 76 or we'd have been stuck with crap music for an eternity.
Speaking of old shitty music, I remember being in elemantary school and had to sell magazine subscriptions for some stupid reason, and the reward was picking out an album out of a list of about 50. Of the performers I knew, I didnt like em. So I picked the only dudes with long hair. Hall and Oates Wow that was terrible shit!!
Not a bad band musically, by any means. But they sure had some cheezy tunes. Definitely sound like the seventies, and not the greatest part of them. Gowan is actually a very good signer.
