The shape of punk to come. The refused. 1998 one of the most if not the most influential album in the modern rock era. It set the sound for rock/hardcore/post harcore/ emo for the decade to come
an album that'll rip your face off! I use that CD to test speakers and amps/ receivers. It also scares off old ladies, hipsters and prog rock fans.
Find a band named Fake Names. It's Brian Baker (minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion), Michael Hampston (Embrace, SOA), Johnny Temple (Soulside) and Dennis Lyxzén (Refused). It's not Refused but it's freakin awesome.
Tried them out on the way home today, can’t figure out what it is but just couldn’t get into it. It sounded a lot like those bands that tried too hard to be more HC again and less metaly like nyhc had become. This is where I don’t get nostalgic for days gone by, as far as 90s HC goes. Don’t get me wrong, wasn’t horrible, just didn’t hit me in the feels
Never saw it, but knew they were doing talk show stuff. But yeah, times flyin’! So funny Dave Brockie story from27-28 years ago (not doin the math)………Dave was a normal looking dude hanging out with us at a bar down a back alley in DC throughout this one summer. All the old Dischord OGs knew who he was, but I had no idea. I listened to them, and of course knew the getup but that was all I knew of them. Hung out with the dude all summer, then they went on tour and I asked my old friend” hey lefty, where’s Dave?” She explained and I was like “ no shit……..never picked up on that about him”
You know what, I'll say it. I like NOFX but really f@ckin' hate Fat Mike. He's a creepy creeping creep.
Live After Death from Long Beach 1985. My cousin Paddy Fitzpatrick was their lighting technician for years. Fook, I selotaped that VHS tape together several times.
OK, this is kind of strange. "Death Metal Grandma". Unfortunately there's nothing on Spotify. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/26/...te=1&user_id=8700b8c187cc070b20262dd2a9543d5f
Currently listening to Metallica Greatest Hits on Youtube. My students are looking at me funny, but I don't care.
