I was telling my buddy the same thing. I would’ve expected toprak or locatelli first. Not that I’m complaining. But I am a bit perplexed. Only thing I can figure is maybe it’s yamahas way of rewarding him for a strong finish to his season on a 2nd tier machine.
Going from a year old track day bike (joking, take it easy!), to the factory Yamaha MotoGP bike! Pumped for his potential opportunity. I think Yamaha must like him.
Topnoodle Ratatouille is also a Red Bull athlete and the factory Yamaha is Monster sponsored. Makes sense. https://motomatters.com/news/2020/11/04/garrett_gerloff_on_standby_as_valentino.html Still, Gerloff getting the call is freaky! Cool but freaky. Also, maybe it's a bone that Dorna and Yamaha is throwing the 'merican fans?
Maybe it’s also a way to measure the Gerloff/Boobytitties GP potential. He could in effect be making a test ride for whether Cam should hop from Moto2 to GP in 1-2 years. Gerloff does awesome, it stands to reason Cam would be a safe bet too.
Wow. Always pulling for Rossi, but GG getting a shot at a factory Yamaha? What the heck! Hope it materializes.
I just really want to know if GG is better than Cam. If GG had been in the USA this year things may have been very different.
I wondered that too. Thought there was a chance that GG could have done what he did to JD in Supersport.
Why? Let’s enjoy this moment, we have our two best riders making some inroads on the world stage. Hopefully they’re both on the path to full time GP rides.
The BEEB has decided GG to race this weekend and Cam for race two. Just stay home with your supermodel girlfriend Vale.
There could be consideration simply for getting a US rider an opportunity. If I'm MotoGP marketing, I'm looking at the lack of US riders as an obstacle to expanding their market here.
