Ban the Onlins forks I say, off with their heads. I actually think you should get rid of them and get rules for forks that at least look like they belong. Companies like PM etc make brakes and that stuff but no idea how good they are. I’d want some billet Brembo s with about 900MM rotors. I didn’t look close but did any have magnesium wheels or just machined alum? I’d hope they’d run at least wheels they sell as the Harley guys swap those a good bit.

Good grief, I’m probably older than most folks here—I first raced in the 60’s—and I really thought they put on a great show. Lighten up folks and see it for what it was. It was fun, different, brought in a whole new segment of the manufacturers and aftermarket, and obviously struck a note with fans, including a whole new segment of fans. What’s not to like about all that? Road racing will not prosper if it can’t put butts in seats and remain relevant to a significant portion of the motorcycle market, and provide entertainment. Racing baggers isn’t a purists thing, for sure, but it has already proven itself to be plenty popular. And nothing like the sh*tshow some predicted.

 

Nevermind the fact that based on lap times Tyler would have been top 10 in twins cup and possibly made the grid in super sport

Specialized, Pinarello, Wilier base team bikes are all quite a bit more than the base Bianchi, before adding the extras.

I'm not saying it's going to be the next big thing, but it's an interesting side show to the real show, and has some deep ties to motorcycling in America, and has a great potential to bring some more eyes (and wallets) into roadracing. If not for the harely guy standing on the sidelines that hates sportbikes, but for his son or daughter standing next to him that likes the "faster" bikes. Most sports tend to have a very narrow view towards growing the next generation and just focus on the "now". Maybe this will help maybe not, but whatever it is, it was pretty entertaining IMO.

 

If this class is going to be a long term (2-3 years) tag on class thing then yeah, let the aftermarket grow with the class and provide all the parts needed to run on its own. If it's meant to be a 1-2 round spectacle and never anything more than that, let them run what they can get away with. It's all in the name of entertainment anyway. They'd probably sell a boat load of performance parts with direct ties to the products used on the race bikes, so it would benefit them to build the aftermarket along with it, and listening to the commentary during the race it sounds like that is the goal.

I will say I wasn't a fan of this deal.
Yep I'm old school and believe it is a waste of money and time.
I also didn't care for the little bikes either.
But that's my thoughts.
Now the reality is I shouldn't be so selfish or short sighted to see that this
may bring more people and maybe money back to this sport.
So I will support this and it was fun to watch them go around the track.
I wasn't hoping it would be on TV or be upset if I didn't get to see the race.
But then again it wasn't meant for people like me to see or gather interest.
And maybe that's the best thing everyone would have to agree on.
Its to get new people to watch and that seems to have worked.

Last time I went to a MA race at Pitt they had a "side show" of stunters out in the parking lot. Hey, there were quite a few folks watching...good for them! Not my schtick but what the hey. Folks then wandered up the hill to watch the races...win win. If baggers do the same thing, go for it. Put a freakin carnival side show in the parking lot for all I care...more is more!

 

F1 did that at COTA - Taylor Swift concert.

 

MotoGP-Indy was exactly that. The “Motorcycles on Meridian” event was downtown all weekend, with live music, food, motorcycle cruising, etc. Friday nights had amateur flattrack out at the county fairgrounds. Saturday night was AMA flattrack at the state fairgrounds. One year they had Endurocross at the state fairgrounds, while the state fair was going, so mom and kids could go do that while the guys went to the arena. MotoGP-Indy was an awesome, weekend event. It’s a shame, attendance numbers didn’t support it, because the community went all-out.
