Every time I use these things seems like they arent long enough. WTF. Why make them so short. I just bought a set of race plastics that came with them pre installed and F^CK ME I cant get them to mount. I have also used them before and they are such a PIA to get them to bite. WTF. My wife tells me its because Im left handed. Haha. Am I alone on this?
No, you are not. They eventually go, but the first few uses can be tight. it helps to fit and sand before paint if needed.
They make them in different lengths. I used to have to mix and match and use the plastic washers as spacers when needed.
You can also "pinch" them a little bit with a set of pliers to decrease the reach required by the fastener. Comes in handy when you have bodywork sections that are a little thicker. this is for the "rivet" type, so YRMV.
kurveygirl.com has an article about how to properly fit Dzus fasteners: https://www.kurveygirl.com/shop/article_info.php?articles_id=8&osCsid=nr4n36st6g3vdfn7i5qophnsa4 Aircraft Spruce and Specialty has info on length selection as well.
I use the slip-on type. I have a nice selection of every size so there's always something that will fit. As mentioned above, a squeeze with pliers can really help.
This. The fasteners on the SV650 race bodywork had the same problem. I replaced them with a properly sized set of the rivet type from kurveygirl and they work flawlessly now.
Good feedback I will try the pliers pinch. These were pre-installed (rivet) on the race plastics I bought with supplied bolts. I have been struggling with it. I can see it now, miss my first race cause I was screwing with my dzus fasteners!
It was bikeplast. I just became distributor for them (already DB Holders, as many have bought sets from me) so this was my first set of actually using them. High quality race plastics, most holes were pre-drilled, and had markers for where to cut frame sliders. just struggling with the dzus fasteners after paint.
If they work perfectly before paint they will be a blonde one too short after. They always need a little finagling to get them to catch afterwards.
