I used to poke fun at folks bitching about their back pain. It wasn't until I experienced it first hand that I gained an entirely new perspective on just how bad it can be. I no longer poke fun at anyone. You just don't understand until you've dealt with it. It's no joke and you have basically just volunteered to be in the equivalent of a lower back pain car crash.
The scar doesn’t look too bad. It’s just a lot longer than originally intended. They couldn’t reuse the bone to rebuild my spine out of that contraption, because the bone was in too bad of shape. So he had to do a complete Fusion of L2+L3. Then as he went higher (towards my neck), he found more cracked vertebrae and herniated discs. That’s why the incision is so long, and the surgery took 9-10hrs, instead of the expected 3-4. Then he has to put that extra hole at the top to run the drain tube into my spine. So all in all, I think the scar will be ok. It’ll be hidden by my shirt anyway.
Geezuz I think you’re my doppelgänger Hang in there man. It’s only a setback. Let it fuel your return to comeback stronger than before!!!
I did that last night. I was in pain and couldn’t stop shaking. So I spent 20min watching a looped video of a little chubby panda eating bamboo. He was super funny to me.
I was the same for my hip surgery, and I think it messed up my recovery. Sometimes you got to use the stuff, but I also have addictive tendencies, so didn't want to go down that road either.
Some great advice here.. it's also important to remember that people heal at different rates and have different thresholds based on anatomy. And every surgery is different even within the same procedure. Establish and keep the focus on what's best for your body in the end. Take it a little easy dude. Always evaluate and re evaluate. And remember, just because you're physically in great shape, doesn't mean you're 18 anymore.. shits gonna just take more time. Hang in there. Stay positive.
You are losing to yourself. You're losing any time you don't listen to your body telling you what it needs - and in the case of pain it's pain meds. Quit being a dumbass.
Eff all these pansy ass losers telling you to "take it easy" and "go slow". If you aint First, You're last. Remember that! So you can either take some rags soaked in gas and tie them to your ankles and light them up to keep the ants from eating your candy ass and lay in bed... Or you can man up, pour some 'tussin on your back and sign up for a 5K this weekend. Your choice, Mancy.
Back pain is awful and I really feel for anyone that has to deal with it. Do everything they say for a good recovery. Take the meds, do the therapy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We need to put this in Broome terms: Getting to the clock first is equivalent to getting to pit out the day before your race. You're sitting at the edge of the track on cold tires. The guy in bed is busy back in his pits making his bike as prepared as possible for the race. The race is to who can heal first. Listen to your docs and the professionals. I'm neither. Good luck.
To put this in a race perspective: Save some tire for later on in the race. they'll come back to you, and you'll win. If you burn off your tires now, that guy in the room by the clock will win. You don't want that.
