The one Yamaha I've always wanted but have never found for sale is the TRX850.

Did you ever ride one? I tried one when they came out and was shocked by the brakes but underwhelmed with the lack of power.

I've never even seen one in real life, but I appreciate the assessment. I had a feeling that the reality of it was far from the expectation.

I rode a TDM 850, built around the same engine, for a couple of days in the early nineties. I had a blast, but I had almost no experience so it's hard to say what I would have thought of that bike after I owned a few of my own.

I've seen quite a few TDM's for sale but never a TRX. The TRX has a claimed 79HP and is 418#'s dry. With those specs you'd think it would scoot along just fine.

DOH, that's what I rode, the TDM, not the TRX so just ignore my earlier statement.

I didn't think they imported the TRX to the US?

I had one. The HP assessment was optimistic, lots of bolt on parts from Japan got you to 100ish. Also handled like a soggy pie, everything but the sound was under whelming. From memory it was nearly revived in the last decade for something else (tdm 1050?) never got there. Allegedly was a great power plant in dirt bikes set up for desert racing.

The TDM looks like a great candidate for ADV riding.

Wiki and another site confirmed it was Japan and Europe only. My colleague in Munich had one and I almost bought it and imported here back around 2000

The Parker RADD front suspension that Yamaha purchased.

It's the 90's Niken. Which seems cool, never seen one on the road though.
