If it's such a great track why no MotoGP or WSBK? Cool place, a fantastic museum, neat layout/racetrack, but...

MotoGP raced Indianapolis. Doesn't make it a great track. (just talking layout)

    To short? Not tried?

  9. It is too short. The bikes cannot get into 6th gear.

There were plans years ago for lengthening it. I remember seeing them once. IIRC, the front straight away was going to keep going for a while (through where the sandtrap and trees are now), then later on it would take a left, make a loop around, and then a short straight would connect where the T4 hill is now. But obviously that never became a reality.

Do a search. There is a draft mock up map and as I recall the extension was on the backside.

Yes, but Indy met the homologation rules and Barber did not.

Didn't Madlin complain that he couldn't get the out of 4 gear or something like that?

Yep and I think it was the lack of enough pit boxes too? I think the FIM has a whole list of requirements and not just the track design/length/etc.

It's not long enough is the reason I always was told.

Are we talking "great" or "homologated?" Those are two different things.

    This track is homologated…

So now you've added another layer to it. How safe is a track?

Pretty sure it doesn't fit the FIM structure exactly right for some reason. Could just be they see no need to pay the extravagant sanction fees either. FIM races running at a track doesn't really mean a damn thing about a track being great or not.

Based on my experience - extremely safe. Safer than some FIM homologated tracks.

But what does any of that have to do with a track being great or not? That's what was said you took exception to for some reason....

I have added a layer? Come on, man. You brought a homologation, which has allowed to do with the safety of the track. All I said was that just because a track is not a MotoGP track doesn't mean that it's not a great track. Which is something very subjective. You know, the kind of feeling that makes someone say "best track ever" without expecting to get into some long philosophical discussion.

How safe? You want that in meters or in pounds? Come on, man.
