I have a small service/retail shop, just under 1,000 sq ft. Need some sort of alarm system with monitoring to satisfy the ins co, what are you guys with small places using?

    Thanks!

If there is an ADS near you, they are pretty awesome. I've been in their monitoring station and it is def. state of the art.

    That's who I would suggest

The issue with commercial services is the monthly fee that always goes up.

If you are handy (and most folks here are), I'd suggest building one using a Raspberry Pi as the foundation.

Do alerts to you cell phone count as "monitoring"?

SimpliSafe. No reason it wouldn't work as well there as in a house.

Thanks everyone, I'll verify what level of monitoring the ins co needs. A friend locally uses Safetouch so we had them stop by for a consult a few days ago. I was a bit surprised at upfront cost. Nearly $300 for one camera and one door switch then $53 per month. I think I must have assumed upfront would be nill and they made their money on the monthly. Guess not lol.
