China Southern has (had) 3 direct flights per week from Wuhan to San Fran (and that's just from Wuhan). Wuhan is a major travel hub of central China. So knowing that the Wu Flu was indeed a thing as early as November last year and how easily it spreads.....I can't see it not being in Cali by December. They said the same thing about it up in Washington state as well. They speculated it had already been there for 6 weeks by the time the 2nd case was discovered.

But that article you posted on the previous page has me curious since I was in San Fran for a week at the end of Feb for RSA convention......and whilst I was certainly not walking around licking doorknobs, I wasn't being ridiculously careful. Everyone was mindful of washing hands but not really anyway wearing masks at the time and people still shaking hands and hugging and whatnot. We did find out afterwards that 2 confirmed people at the convention ended up testing positive. That was the same week the mayor there declared a state of whatever at the time as a "pre-emptive measure". I'd be curious to know how widespread it was at the time. Also pretty nifty that they are looking to test blood bank samples for antibodies to help understand the timeline of potential past carriers.

Granted I'm not a scientist, but I would think it would not be that tough to find out who had flown from Wuhan to
SF or Washington or flew through to NYC and do some actual tracking of the virus spread. Or they could do some
actual broad testing in those areas designed to determine what percentage of the population has already had it and
maybe start getting some useful data. Or both. There appears to be zero urgency to accomplish anything in that area.

C'mon, you're the map man, you should know comparing the total population of a country the size of Sweden to a state the size of Jersey is not apples to apples.

Population density of Sweden = 64/sq mi

Density of Jersey = 1200/mi sq

Even the common cold will spread much faster in New Jersey than in Sweden...

Looking at the population density of Stockholm County in Sweden, they have a total of 528 deaths in a density of 940/sq mi. Now if you want to say that all 528 deaths are from the Capital, Stockholm, then it is 528 deaths over a pop. density of approx. 12,000/sq mi.

The largest county in Jersey (Hudson County) has a pop. density of approx. 11,000/sq mi with the total deaths in Hudson County, New Jersey at 226.

You realize you're making an argument against shutting down less populous states and areas, right?

I'm not arguing anything, just pointing out that using an orange against an apple for a litmus test is not what should be done to try and prove a point (I know both sides of the covid coin have done it).

Those of you clamoring Sweden's decision do realize that their country has been dominated by a socialist ideology since the Great Depression, right? Also, the fact that the high taxes they pay go to subsidize the poor along with funding the medical system allowing the country to be one of the healthiest countries in the world.

Unfortunately, it is too late to reverse the clock and try Sweden's approach to this whole mess and have a fair comparison within this country.

I think a lot of us would make that argument. In fact, I don't recall someone saying we should shutdown every last place in the US. The trick is knowing when you have an outbreak in a new area requiring more aggressive protocol / policies because a large outbreak will have an equal or greater economic impact (in my opinion before all you start asking for a citation or journal article ).

Also, in other news, my friends sister (in PA) started to improve, then got worse, and now the doctor has recommended transferring her to a different facility with "more resources". She's on a ventilator and when they've tried to turn it down to wean her off, the Blood O2 just drops. Sucks really, and no one can be there in person for the family while everyone self-quarantines. Sucks....
