Hah! I was so proud of myself to climb a 14'er at my age, only to find people in their 70's doing it as well... Beautiful view up there though. Rangers told me biggest cause of death on Quandary, was lightning strikes.
yea, in the summer is important when climbing anything over 12k to be up before dawn and off by noon. Quandary has some of the best views. We did Bross, Lincoln and Democrat in a day. That was a lot of fun. If you never have gotten over to Turquoise lake, that is a must see as well.
If ya think he'd be interested in that shot please let him know. The hi res copy is buried in an archive somewhere but the low res is his for the taking.
We did it in early spring, so lots of mud going through the forest, and then a lot of soft snow from about 12,000 up. We were post-holing going up and down, which made it take way longer than expected. Ended up getting to the summit much later than we should have (1:30ish). Bad time to be at the top. Then my wife at the time blows her knee out on the way down, 500 feet off the summit. Didn't get down till after dark.
Saint Augustine trip two years ago yielded some nice photos...all taken with iPhones. The last pic was taken in Hampton Bays, NY. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep he’s right it’s a Shoei NXR Which is the euro version of the RF-1200. I found they release different graphics in other countries so I’ve been buying helmets from EU since that discovery. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, I took this kid to Antero. Camped at the tree line the night before and the weather the next day did not look smart. We went anyway. At the top, I was saying that the scud at our heads is not good, we need to go. I don't hear any stinking thunder, says the kid. If you've perused ADV, you probably know Whale Hill. I camped here one night and a storm rolled in. I was scared shitless. It's like that up there every night I've ever stayed. Yeah, Turquoise Lake is a beaut.
