If the stink is like moisture, you probably need to dry your clothes better before putting them away.
Not stink like body odor....it is pungent. Yes, semi-damp clothes do get filed away on a regular. I take and implement all advices Today..... TY!
How old is your washer/dryer? The newer-type front loads aren't designed to last more than 5-7 years generally. Dryer element could be on its way out and not drying your clothes properly. Dryer duct free-flowing / unobstructed? Has it been cleaned in a while? They make wands you can attach to a shop vac/vacuum hose to stick down through the dryer and clean out lint buildup. If/when it comes time to replace the machines have a look at Speed Queen. They're well worth the money.
Front loading water saver washer? They don't work like advertised. They tend to store up crud and contaminate future loads. There's a lot of bad press for these machines. Edit;;;;;beat by 1 minute....
One suggestion I haven't seen that I've used is adding baking soda to the water and detergent before took load you clothes. Also, as mentioned before, make sure your clothes are completely dry before putting them away. It could be mildew you're smelling.
theres probably mildew in your drawers and closet from putting away damp clothes. +1 to bleach your washer
Well that's the answer. Never put clothes away damp. Now you might as well throw them out because the sour stench isn't coming out no matter how many times you wash them.
Little bit of a soak in some diluted white vinegar (about a cup in a sink or small bucket full of cold water) for about 10-15 minutes, then a good wash does pretty good. It's what I do when my gym clothes start to accumulate a funk that a regular wash cycle won't treat...........they'll smell OK, but as soon as I start to sweat in them {Vincent Price} the funk of 40,000 years {/Vincent Price} starts to erupt.
No. Air them out and/or get a bucket of DampRid and stick it in the corner of the closet. If you end up doing the cedar liner that will also help regulate humidity. But you still gotta dry the clothes completely.
