Just a cheap checker from the parts house works as good as anything, I prefer the type with pellets that float.

I have a Prestone tester, where the indicator needle floats.

I know have a Toyota, and it was suggested that I use "Japanese import" coolant (so I did). I've not yet researched the difference v. Prestone. Can anyone here give me a Cliff Notes version of an answer? And do I need to buy a new coolant tester?

    TIA.

The tester is the same, I only use Toyota antifreeze if it is a older model that still has Red in it. If it has the pink stuff it gets Dexcool just like everything else with long life coolant.

    What are you testing?
Antifreeze strength or testing for hydrocarbons?
