Sen. Schumer proposes $462 billion national car swap — gas for electric "trade-in program to get millions of Americans out of climate-damaging gas vehicles and into electric or hybrid cars over the next decade." https://www.autoblog.com/2019/10/25...gVKZ2pSL2kYwe8NWxEJI0oX7IerggyLz1oj4Z38glm9GI
No one but the stupid because clearly electric cars are so superior they are winning the war in the market place.
Some back of the envelope calculations... ~240 million personal vehicles in the USA. Lets assume 100 million go to full electric. The battery pack is 100kwh with a range of 350 miles (using Tesla numbers) Average person drives 13,476 miles a year (wikipedia) - 13,476/350 = ~38 full battery charges a year. 38 charges * 100kwh * 100 million vehicles = 380,000 Gwh of additional electricity needed. Diablo canyon power plant (dual reactors) makes 17,970 Gwh/year (wikipedia). Nuclear power plants needed = 380,000/17,970 = ~21 nuclear plants Or using windmills... 57,000 windmills producing 22,000 Ghr/year (iea) (380,000/22,000)x57,000 = 984545 windmills based upon current build mix If my math is wrong, let me know.
One thing that all these dumbass politicians forget is electric cars make no heat and are absolutely worthless in the northern 1/3 of the country. You can't even get the windshield to defrost never mind ever get comfortable. Get in your electric car in January and drive up and see me Chuck. Fucking idiot.
Ya, and dont forget that there is way less sunshine during the winter in the North for that awesome solar power that will replace gas or coal fired power plants to "fuel" those glorified golf carts. You know, when you need the energy the most. I laugh when people ramble on about how awesome solar power is. Where I work it gets down to 40 below or lower fairly regularly in the winter and we get zero sunshine between approx. November 20th to Jan 20. That little dark spot will take a fairly big battery pack to get thru...
Heat wise aren't these nicer than I/C cars? You get instant heat and can even set the time you want to leave so the car will be warm before you even get in it. Obviously you lose range but that happens in gas and diesel cars anyways
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/cold-weather-saps-electric-car-batteries-2019-02-07 You don't lose 40% with an IC engine...
I would be willing to trade in my wife's car for an electric since we only use it around town anyway, but until recharging takes as long as refueling for similar mileage, I'm not willing to give up all of my ICEs.
You idiot. These are liberals we’re talking about. Buy any wind turbine, get a free mass transit pass.
Then have the turbine fall on the assembled drum circlers and flower petal droppers mourning the tragedy.
