Sorry - I like all the curries! Mainly, I can readily find Indian and Pakistani. In Atlanta, we found quite a few Ethiopian,. In Toronto, quite a few Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan. San Fran has good variety too. I
Curry smells like someone filled a metal lunchbox with rotten assholes covered in fromunda cheese, and left it out in the sun all summer. ...then opened it up, and put that shit on a plate.
Understood. Personal hygiene habits of folks from some countries can be quite different from U.S.A. A lot of Europeans in the summer, for instance. Garlic and onions do that to a person too, so for sure you can over do things. But man, I love some good curries. I see reference in the thread to "adding curry" to a dish. Curry powder, in and of itself, is more of a western invention to approximate Indian cooking, and can be a bit hard to use in dishes without getting a bitter taste. Indian cooks temper their spices in a hot pan, in effect toasting them and eliminating the bitter taste. Curry powder added to dishes at the end of cooking doesn't taste very good.
I lived in an apartment complex for about 6 months where the primary population were Engineers from India. Nicest people I have ever met. Every evening after dinner, everyone walked as a family to a communal gathering spot. It was very pleasant. That being said, the ENTIRE complex of 300 units smelled like curry. Upstairs, downstairs, bathroom, closets, EVERYTHING. When I would go home on the weekends, my suitcase stayed outside. I'm with Broome. Stuff is nasty. Not Cincinnati chili nasty , but slightly on par.
I'd eat a nice, greasy pork sandwich served in a dirty ashtray before I'd even take a napkin from Skyline.
Thats it! I'll be flying back to Cincy in a few hours, and in your honor, I'll be having coneys! Or a 5-way! Or a burrito! Or all of it!!!
